These Twisted Bonds

by Lexi Ryan

Brie is trapped. Trapped in Faerie. Trapped in a war. Trapped in a bond. And trapped between two princes. Good thing there’s power trapped inside her.

(Is that a snare drum I hear? Yeeeeeeeah. One, two, princes kneel before you. That’s what I said now…)

Read if you like: YA fantasy, fae, YA romance, love triangles, morally grey everyone, the good dark guy, the bad light guy, the feisty chosen one.

Brie woke up from her bonding ceremony without her mortality. She never wanted to be fae, but now that she is her tenuous link to the power inside her has blown wide. She races to the unknown because the two princes who have captured pieces of her heart have both lied. She refuses to be trapped into choosing sides. But with innocents at stake and a prophecy wanting to be fulfilled, how can she walk away?

So, this book was fun. Same as the first, I found it to be wholly predictable and basic in terms of fae stories and romance. If you like classic fantasy tropes with minimal spice but some pretty good steam then this book is for you. While I enjoyed the book, I was waiting for the wow moment. And while it has been over a month, I don’t think I ever achieved a wow.

I wanted more relationship development on the page. We have a lot of internal things going on with Brie, and I know these dudes are fae, but they’re chatty and someone, please, just talk it out for the love of Mab. I did like the origin of the war between the courts. It was a neat twist and basis for Brie’s role in the current situation. And yeah, I know there’s a twisted bond… the front says so, but girl. Girl. GIRL. You know which dude is the real deal. Wrap it up. There are kids to save!
