By Josie Juniper
Crazy tv personality Gigi Becker is sent to the boondocks by her awful boss/husband with a warning to stay out of trouble. But trouble finds her in the way of Leo… a country boy with an artist’s soul and an apparent… boyfriend? Surely, she can resist. Let’s find out.
Read if you like: Coworkers to friends to lovers, small town romance, just a little MMF, finding home, fresh starts, finding your voice, rom coms; the sweet, silent, and strong type; a crazy leading lady with a heart of gold and full of fire. AND it ties into the rest of the Wylde crew by Josie Juniper.
Gigi is your typical hot-mess of a rich girl who just happened to land a dream job after landing a celebrity chef husband, Gavin Yates. Everything was going great with her comedy cooking show filled with prat falls and 80s fashion… but everything with Gavin was on the rocks and quickly sinking. Before the media could get wind of anything that would tarnish their cozy couple reputation Gavin sends Gigi to Alabama to keep her in line. She arrives to the studio knowing she will do anything to make this work and show Gavin that he won’t win. What she doesn’t expect is that the long-connected director and cameraman are not only Southern gentlemen, but intoxicatingly swoon worthy… and their relationship is far more complicated and distracting than Gavin could have ever dreamed.
Bennett and Leo are a dramatic duo that make you wish you could star in your own Southern romance and together they make a perfect friendship package. If only Gigi could keep her eyes and thoughts from wondering about Leo. He has both the style and a deep-rooted connection to home that Gigi finds so unexpected and irresistible especially when it’s all wrapped up in a thick country accent and charm. She’s determined not to let anything get in the way of their friendship… but she’s not the only one with wondering thoughts…
I’m obsessed with this book.
Is it the Southern setting? The small-town vibes? The soft-spoken, dark-haired, blue-eyed, tall and thin, love interest? The accents that I can hear in my head? Is it Gigi and her ridiculous self and her sheer force of will? Is it getting glimpses of the Wylde crew? Is it imagining a version of Gordon Ramsey where he’s let himself go with a beer gut?
YUP!
It’s all that and so much more. This book lives in my head. I love it.
Now allow me say something more coherent.
In this book you get a great story about people who need a little push to get where they need to be in life. You have great characters and a plot that will make you laugh, cry, and be totally worried that someone is about to make a huge mistake and ruin everything! You get to dig deep into a character who makes a living appearing shallow. And you get some super spicy and super sweet romance that makes your heart squeeze.
You also get a MMF interaction that makes sense. I don’t read a lot of this flavor of romance, but what I have read felt rushed, or it’s a one-time situation. And I know, people read for the spice. But in this instance, I’m not people. I need a whole actual plot, please and thank you. The whole interaction was thought out, emotional, mature, and just worked.
My heart was on the page with these characters. I couldn’t wait to see what shenanigans Gigi would get herself into. Also, ughhhhh, LEO…
The only thing I could have wanted was more. But I’m greedy like that. I need like 10 epilogues with the whole Wylde & Co. crew.
